Five Star Reviews for Soul of the Sleuth and The Maui Mysteries Boxed Set

A poignant sequel you don't want to miss!

Ludwig returns in top form with a deliciously intriguing blend of island vibes and proper detective work that will have you hooked from the very first page. This book delivers everything you could want from a mystery novel—complex characters, a cleverly woven plot, and just the right amount of twists and turns to keep you guessing until the very end.
But what makes this book truly special is its underlying message of resilience. In light of the tragic Lahaina fires last year, reading a story set on Maui feels especially poignant. Ludwig honors the spirit of the island and its people—their strength, their community, and ability to rise from the ashes of adversity.
Highly recommended for fans of mystery novels, adventure, and those looking for a great story with depth and soul.

Ludwig spins a fast-paced tale of mystery, intrigue, and even a little magic, set in the backdrop of an island paradise in his third book in the Maui Mystery series, Soul of a Sleuth. This book is a thriller from start to finish, but it's also a beautiful homage to the resilient island of Maui and the township of Lahaina that was devastated by fire in 2023. If you like fearless protagonists, spine-tingling suspense, and pulse-pounding action, check out this fantastic series!

A mind-bending mystery in paradise.
This is an intriguing mystery with a unique spin, set in beautiful Hawaii. Author Rick Ludwig explores themes of perception, identity, and how we define ourselves through the choices we make. Has Detective Keone Boyd stumbled onto proof of the multiverse? Or is it a mental health issue? I love endings that are open to interpretation and allow readers to draw their own conclusions and this story delivers. Eyes of the Beholder will bend your mind in all the right ways!

A novel that will have you questioning what is right, and what is left. An amazing read!

There's a special feeling you get when you start a new book and it grabs you immediately. Suddenly, sleep seems less important than turning the page and learning what happens next. Reading the latest from author Rick Ludwig, I was pleased to get that feeling from the first page.
Police detective Keone Boyd, the protagonist, takes us on a journey through a case that defies all logic. After narrowly avoiding death in an automobile accident, Boyd seeks out the driver who crashed into him and learns far more than he ever bargained for.
As Boyd continues to pursue the case, he tries to shake the feeling that not all is right on his beloved home island of Maui. Seeking the truth, the novel takes you on an unforgettable adventure that will have you smelling the lokelani and dreaming about the gentle rhythm of ocean waves.
Pick this novel up today. You won't regret it.

A wonderful collection
October 17, 2019
Format : Paperback
Ludwig brings this crime-fiction reader full circle from the Hawaiian Islands to the Italian Coast and back again with the conclusion of his trilogy in “Pele’s Fire.” And when combined with “Mirrored” and “Something More,” he has not only created believable characters and complicated crimes, but he’s introduced me to a Detective in Keone Boyd that I hope resurfaces in the future.

Face paced action elevated by the presense of a mysterious mythical entity
October 16, 2019
Format : Paperback
A fun read full of unexpected plot twists driven by the presence of a mysterious entity drawn from Greek & Hawaiian mythology. Not your typical crime thriller which I found refreshing.

Mirrored Delivers (October 31, 2015)

Rick Ludwig delivers out of the gate with his first novel, Mirrored. Beyond an interesting premise, this book has two key ingredients: a good plot and well-developed characters. Maui detective Keone Boyd will surely be the subject of future stories by this author. The book also has an added bonus for anyone who has visited Maui as the charm and culture of this island are well portrayed. Overall, a fast and delightful read.
