Hi, I’m Rick Ludwig.

My first professionally published book, Pele’s Fire, was released in 2019 by Babylon Books. My second, Eyes of the Beholder launched on July 19, 2022. My third book Voice of the Victim launched on July 15, 2023. My final book in the Maui Mystery Series, Soul of a Sleuth launched on August 13, 2024. And an electronic boxed set of all three Maui Mysteries was published November 7, 2024 [Soul of the Sleuth replaced Pele’s Fire as the third and final book in the series].

I spent over forty years as a research scientist in the academic, health care, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries, authoring multiple scientific papers and book chapters, before turning to creative writing. I started my first novel, a memoir called Return to Center: A Modern Pilgrimage, in 1998, printed and bound it at Kinko’s, and shared it with friends and family.

I began writing full-time in 2008 after moving to the beautiful island of Maui. To prepare, I attended the Hawaii Writers Conference in 2009 and met some gifted professional writers, including William Bernhardt, whose Red Sneaker writers’ workshops between 2010 and 2016 served as my graduate training in creative writing. I served as Volunteer Coordinator for the 2013 Aloha Writers Conference in Kapalua, Maui, and helped found the writers group Maui Writers, Ink in 2014. I self-published my first book, Mirrored, in 2014 and second, Something More in 2015, presented seminars at the Rose State Writers Workshop in 2015 and at WriterCon in 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2024. I also participated in the first WriterCon Cruise in 2020.
